Members of United Auto Workers Local 1112 will vote on the tentative four-year contract with General Motors Co. beginning at 5 a.m. today at the plant. Voting lasts until 5 a.m. Wednesday; voting also takes place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the union hall.
Local 1112 comprises workers from the East Assembly Complex.
The new pact calls for a $5,000 signing bonus, $2-to-$3 pay increases for Tier 2 workers, who currently make between $14 and $16 per hour, and simplified profit-sharing calculations.
Local 1714 voted Saturday, with 57 percent of workers voting in favor.
Gas drops 10 cents

Gas costs 10 cents less in the Mahoning Valley compared with last week.
The price for a gallon of regular-grade gas was $3.44 Monday, down from $3.54 a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.
In Ohio, a survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express put the average price for regular-grade gasoline at $3.32 per gallon. That’s down 17 cents from last week, when it was $3.49, but is more than the $2.63 average from last year.
Nationwide, the average cost of regular gas is $3.49.
New NCST facility

APEC summit opens

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit kicks off today at Youngstown State University at 1 p.m.
The conference is one of four in the nation aimed at broadening the community’s understanding of the relationship between the Asia-Pacific region and the U.S.
Today, Eric Harwit, professor of Asian studies, University of Hawaii and adjunct fellow at East-West Center, Honolulu, will discuss the automobile and electronics industries in Asia. Jennifer Turner, director of the China Environment Forum, Wilson Center, Washington, D.C., will discuss China-U.S. environmental cooperation.

Canned-food drive
YOUNGSTOWN
Pizza Hut locations in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties are participating in a canned-food drive now until Oct. 31 to help combat hunger.
According to data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture this month, 1 in 6 Ohio households deals with hunger.
Guests who donate will receive a certificate for free cinnamon sticks or apple pies, depending on location.
