CINCINNATI — Despite a worrisome economy, Macy’s, Inc. today announced an early holiday gift for those unemployed: more jobs.

The Cincinnati-based retail chain says it will hire 78,000 seasonal workers for its Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores and call, distribution and online centers.

That’s a 4 percent increase compared to last year, when the chain hired 75,000.

Most positions are part-time and many require evening, weekend or overnight shifts.

Seasonal employees can be offered open year-round positions based on performance during the holiday season.

Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s will begin accepting applications next week at www.macysJOBS.com and www.bloomingdalesJOBS.com.
