Seventy-five years ago, Youngstown, then part of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, hosted a two-day Eucharistic Congress that drew nearly 200,000 people to Wick Park and Stambaugh Auditorium, where a stainless steel altar was built. Bishop Joseph Schrembs is ascending the steps to the altar for one of the indoor services, with priests and nuns from throughout the diocese attending. Tens of thousand attended outdoor services Sept. 23 and 24, 1936.
