Kent State 33, South Alabama 25
KENT
Anthony Meray ran for two touchdowns for Kent State. Meray, who had 64 yards on 12 carries, scored from 3 yards out in the first quarter and then again on a 28-yard run that gave Kent State a 26-0 lead going into halftime. The Golden Flashes weren’t done yet, forcing South Alabama to fumble on their first possession of the second half and scoring two plays later on a 10-yard pass from Spencer Keith. The score gave Kent State a commanding 33-0 third quarter lead.
Akron 36, VMI 13
AKRON
Akron rushed for 294 yards and amassed 534 yards total offense in a rout of Virginia Military Institute. The matchup of winless teams was no contest at all, not with Akron’s Clayton Moore passing for 223 yards and three touchdowns. The Zips (1-3) got on the board early and often, opening up a quick 14-0 lead and leading 29-7 at halftime. Moore threw two touchdown passes to Keith Sconiers, the first a 31-yarder to open the scoring in the first quarter. Sconiers scored again in the second period on a 10-yard touchdown pass, one of his eight receptions totaling 154 yards.
Temple 38, Maryland 7
COLLEGE PARK, Md.
Bernard Pierce set a school record with five rushing touchdowns, and Temple built a 31-point halftime lead in a stunning rout. One week after coming agonizingly close to snapping a 28-game skid against Penn State, Temple (3-1) defeated Maryland (1-2) for the first time. Pierce ran 32 times for 149 yards, including 108 in the decisive first half. He had touchdown runs of 1,9,4, 44 and 13 yards, giving him 12 TDs for the season.
Rutgers 38, Ohio 26

Mohamed Sanu had a record-setting 16 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns as Rutgers knocked error-prone Ohio from the unbeaten ranks. .
Bowling Green 37, Miami 23
OXFORD
After Miami (Ohio) drew within a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Anthon Samuel sped a record 96 yards to give Bowling Green the clinching touchdown in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Ball State 48, Army 21
MUNCIE, Ind.
Keith Wenning threw for a career-high 324 yards and tied a career-high with three touchdown passes. Willie Snead had 10 receptions for 180 yards and one touchdown, while Jahwan Edwards rushed for 64 yards and three touchdowns.

DEKALB, Ill.
Quarterback Chandler Harnish’s two passing touchdowns and two more rushing gave him 67 for his career.
