To be arraigned

YOUNGSTOWN

A 76-year-old city man will be arraigned today on charges of discharging firearms in city limits and killing or injuring animals in the shooting of a dog on the East Side on Sunday.

Police arrested Alfred Sykes, 76, of Lyden Avenue on Thursday.

The dog reportedly was walking with a group of children on Lyden Avenue. Reports say Sykes pointed what is believed to be a shotgun out the window of his truck and shot the dog about 3:30 p.m.

The group of kids identified Sykes to police.

Police spoke to Sykes, who adamantly denied shooting the dog. Officers tested his hands for gunshot residue and confiscated two firearms, one being a shotgun, from Sykes home.

Police said Sykes showed frustration about loose dogs running through the neighborhood.
