CANFIELD

Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Treasures of Beaver Creek State Park” at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center staff will bring this Columbiana County state park to life with a program on its hidden treasures.

The program will be at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46.

Dedication planned

ASHTABULA

Beatitude House, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, is having a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the former St. Joseph Elementary School, 3404 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, which will be renovated to house 10 homeless families. Work is expected to begin this month with families scheduled to occupy the facility in the spring of 2012.

Funding for the project comes from the Federal Home Loan Bank through a partnership with Farmers National Bank, the Ashtabula Foundation, the Conneaut Foundation, the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, Northwest Savings Bank, the Frank & Pearl Gelbman Foundation, Farmers National Bank, Davis International, and many individual donors, including Joe and Mary Kay DelPriore, Ashtabula residents who were instrumental in bringing Beatitude House to Ashtabula.

Family nature walk

PYMATUNING, Pa.

The Mercer County Conservation District will have a free family nature walk from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Kidds Mill covered bridge on Township Road 471, approximately one half-mile east of Pa. state Route 18.

Participants will learn about the plants and animals of autumn as well as some of the mysteries and history of the last remaining covered bridge in Mercer County.

Ski party set

NILES

A preseason ski party at McMenamy’s Restaurant and Banquet Center, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, at 6 p.m. Oct. 19, will benefit the Warren Family Mission.

The free party will feature representatives from many area ski resorts giving out information. Those attending are asked to bring nonperishable items for the mission to help area families in need.
