YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University Theater will open its main stage season this week with Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

The show will run two consecutive weekends: Thursday through Oct. 2, and Oct. 7-9, in Spotlight Arena Theater, inside Bliss Hall. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee will begin at 3 p.m. All seats are general admission.

The show is directed by new YSU Theater faculty member Matthew Mazuroski, who joined the department in July as an assistant professor of theater.

Prior to his appointment at YSU, he was the performing arts coordinator and an adjunct assistant professor of theater at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.

He completed his master of fine arts in Theater Directing at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Over the past 20 years, Mazuroski has worked across the country as a professional actor, director and educator.

“Streetcar” revolves around a culture clash between two iconic characters: Blanche DuBois, a fading relic of the Old South, and the coarse Stanley Kowalski, part of the rising working class, set in New Orleans.

The cast includes Rebecca Anderson of Cortland as Eunice Hubbell, Kayla Boye (Warren) as Stella Kowalski, Tony Genovese (West Middlesex, Pa.) as Stanley Kowalski, Mitchell Thornton (McDonald) as Steve Hubbell, Cheney Morgan (Boardman) as Harold Mitchell; Kelly Sullivan (Youngstown) as Blanche DuBois; Patrick Hobby (Poland) as Pablo Gonzales, and Joey Alvey (Cleveland), Courtney Auman (Austintown) and Daniel Temelkoff (Liberty).

An opening night dinner will be Thursday at Pete’s Place in Kilcawley Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and patrons should enter from the University Plaza entrance.

Tickets are $15 for season ticket holders and $20 for a dinner/theater ticket package for non-season ticket holders. Advance reservations and payment are mandatory; call the box office at 330-941-3105.

Tickets are free for YSU students with ID; $10 for adults; $5 for senior citizens, YSU faculty and staff and high school and college students from other universities, Penguin Club members and YSU alumni.
