“Kids Can Cook,” a new weekly television that will include Mahoning Valley children, will premiere at 12:30 p.m. Saturday on 21 WFMJ-TV.
The show’s goal is to teach children the benefits of healthy eating. It will air a second time each weekend at 7:30 a.m. Sunday on WBCB-TV.
“Kids Can Cook” is a response to the epidemic of U.S. children who are obese and at risk of diabetes. Nearly 1 in 3 American kids are obese, according to a news release about the show from Mike Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank.
The show is a collaborative effort among Second Harvest, the Italian Education Foundation, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Valley Foods, and WFMJ, with support provided by Rulli Bros. and Nemenz IGA.
WFMJ newsman Glenn Stevens and cooking-segment specialist Regina Reynolds will be the hosts of the 30-minute program, which will be filmed at MCCTC’S kitchen, classrooms and restaurant.
