Ohio legislative maps combine Democratic seats

COLUMBUS(AP) — Proposed maps for Ohio’s legislative districts would pit three House Democrats against Republicans and potentially lead several Democrats to challenge each other for the same seats because their districts would be combined.

The legislative maps to be decided by the Ohio Apportionment Board were unveiled today. The board redraws the state’s legislative districts every 10 years to reflect changes in population after each census.

The board will review the maps Monday, then likely vote on them later in the week.

The Apportionment Board consists of four Republicans — Gov. John Kasich, Senate President Tom Niehaus, Auditor Dave Yost and Secretary of State Jon Husted — and one Democrat, House Minority Leader Armond Budish.

Republicans control the Ohio House and Senate.
