Registered nurses Kendra Christy, Lillian Moyer and Brenda Polanichka, employed at the Sharon Regional Health System Cancer Care Center, 2320 Highland Road, were recently certified as oncology nurses.

The Cancer Center offers specialized rehabilitation services for cancer patients in a new dedicated area that is part of the Center’s recent expansion/renovation project. A team of physical, occupational and speech therapists specialize in helping cancer patients regain their strength and endurance to return to activities of daily living; manage their pain, fatigue, and/or nausea; address difficulty with walking, impaired balance and swallowing/eating concerns; help with assisting devices; and provide assistance with managing lymphedema symptoms that may result from surgery and/or radiation therapy.

Ohio Department of Health’s Office of Healthy Ohio is accepting applications for its 2011 Healthy Worksite Awards through Oct. 21. All worksites, regardless of size, public, private, for-profit or nonprofit status may apply.

Applications will be evaluated by members of the Healthy Ohio Business Council Executive Committee and will be judged in two groups: small employers with fewer than 300 employees, and employers with 301 or more employees.

Club donation

SHARON, PA.

The UPMC Horizon Medical Equipment Recycling Program received $1,200 from Penn State Shenango’s Physical Therapist Assistant Club. The donation comes from profits from the PTA Club’s 2010 and 2011 Hustle for Muscle 5 K Run/Walk. A portion of the event’s proceeds supports a local nonprofit chosen by the club while the other portion supports the club’s programs.

Dr. Colette R. Willins of Westlake was recently installed as the 2011-12 president of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. She has been a member of OAFP since 1990 and of the Northeast Ohio Academy of Family Physicians since 1998 serving as its president in 2004. Dr. Willins practices at Premier Physicians Centers and has been practicing in Westlake since 1998. She received her medical degree from The Ohio State University in 1993 and completed her residency at Summa Health System/Akron City Hospital Family Practice Residency in Akron in 1996. She and her family live in Westlake.

Also, Dr. Ratna K. Palakodeti of Beavercreek was elected 2011-2012 president-elect of OAFP. Dr. Palakodeti, a member of OAFP, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Miami Valley Academy of Family Physicians, was MVAFP president in 2004 and MVAFP Physician of the Year in 2008. Dr. Palakodeti practices family medicine at First Care Family Medical in Beavercreek.
