Daniel denied parole

WARREN

Christopher W. Daniel has been denied parole for his role in a deadly attack on an elderly Wick Street Southeast couple in 1988.

Daniel, 41, was sentenced to 37 to 100 years in prison on convictions of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. He has served 22 years.

He will be eligible for parole again in September 2015.

The attack, which occurred during a robbery, killed George Melnick, 65, and permanently blinded Katherine Melnick, then 64.

Daniel’s co-defendant, Andre Williams, was sentenced to death for his role in the crime and awaits execution on Ohio’s Death Row.

While Daniel was attacking Katherine Melnick with a brick, Williams was attacking George Melnick, 65, also with a brick, prosecutors said.

In addition to blindness, Daniel’s attack on Katherine Melnick caused numerous facial fractures and a brain injury.
