Police are asking anyone with information about an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl to call officers. The attempted abduction happened about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Coitsville Road, according to a police report.
The child told police a man pulled her behind a tree in a yard at her home and shoved a leaf in her mouth. When her mother began calling for her daughter from the front yard, the man ran into the woods behind the house, reports state. The man was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, had brownish-green eyes and a dark complexion. Anyone with information should call 330-755-1411.
Bicyclists to tour urban gardens
YOUNGSTOWN
Bicyclists will tour city neighborhoods and visit urban gardens between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday as part of the worldwide “Moving Planet” observance that will call attention to alternatives to the use of air-polluting fossil fuels.
The event will begin at the Crandall Park Pavilion in Crandall Park on the city’s North Side at 9 a.m., with sign-, banner- and bicycle-decorating followed by a noon bicycle-safety discussion. At 3 p.m., there will be a potluck gathering featuring speakers, food and live music by the Tangerine Coyotes, the Knowledge Drop-out and Absolom.

Tours of Salem’s Underground Railroad homes will be given at 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Participants will ride the Quakertown Trolley past the homes while viewing more than 100 slides that show the interiors of the homes, the Underground Railroad hiding places and several abolitionists who lived in or visited them. The slides also will help clarify the historical information presented during the program.
Tours begin at the Salem Historical Society, 208 S. Broadway, and last one hour. The cost is $10.
Store janitor faces theft charges

A 21-year-old Lowellville man is facing a felony theft charge after being arrested on his birthday. Police said Michael J. Demetro worked as a janitor at Sears in the Southern Park Mall.
He was arrested Monday morning after the store’s loss-prevention officer called police when he claimed to see Demetro take a polo shirt, according to reports. The store’s loss-prevention officer told police Demetro has been under surveillance for about two months, during which time he is alleged to have stolen numerous items totaling $692 in value, records state. Demetro is free on $2,500 bond.
