2nd man accused in 2010 homicide is indicted
YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury handed up an indictment today against a 22-year-old man accused of murder.
Elijah Alexander is in Mahoning County jail after being accused of fatally shooting Rodney Weaver during a robbery on the city’s North Side last year, according to The Vindicator’s media partner 21 WFMJ-TV.
Alexander is the second suspect arrested in connection with the murder.
Thomas Wright, 23, of Halleck Avenue, will stand trial in the case in front of Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. If convicted, Wright could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Weaver, 25, of Catalina Avenue, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center just before 10 p.m. Jan. 12, 2010. He was found lying on the ground in front of a Lexington Avenue home on the North Side covered in blood from a gunshot wound.
Police said at that time they believed Weaver likely was shot at another location before running to the Lexington Avenue area and collapsing.
