Police are investigating a report of two women being assaulted Tuesday afternoon on North Phelps Street downtown.

A 27-year-old Boardman woman told police she was trying to park her car along Phelps about 2:30 p.m. when a man offered to help. She declined and the man went into 20 Federal Place on West Federal Street for a few seconds. When he came back out, he told the woman she was too far from the curb and would be ticketed. She asked him to help, but he said no and kept walking. The two then exchanged insults and he walked back and spit on her and then slammed her to the ground when she got out of her car.

The woman’s friend, 22, of McDonald, came to help and the man punched her, knocking her to the ground. He then ran away.

Police found a baseball cap and sweatshirt they believe the man shed as he fled.

The man is described as a 6-foot-tall white male in his late 20s or early 30s and weighing between 175 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a white Ecko Unlimited jacket, white baseball hat and blue jeans, according to reports. Anyone with information is asked to call Boardman police at 330-726-4144.
