A local company’s technology is being used at the site of the National September 11 Monument and Museum in New York City.

The monument chose Youngstown-based SenSource Inc. to install two video-based traffic counters to monitor its foot traffic.

“It’s able to eliminate objects that are moving and nonmoving that aren’t actual people,” said Lauren Gallo, director of marketing for SenSource.

One camera is near the memorial entrance, and the other near the preview site.

Gallo said it’s a relatively new piece of technology for SenSource, which also has a thermal-imaging traffic counter.

“It’s something like in the movie ‘Predator,’” Gallo said.

She said the video-based counters are more precise; installation of one of those cameras costs about $2,000 to $3,000, Gallo said.

The technologies are used at businesses in 44 countries. Some notable business clients include Abercrombie & Fitch, Express, Vitamin World and Skechers.
