Police investigating several gun crimes
YOUNGSTOWN
City police are investigating several instances of crimes involving guns over the last several days.
There are still no arrest in the city’s most recent homicide, but police are asking the public to come forward with any information concerning the murder of 17-year-old Joshua T. Davis on the city’s South Side late Friday.
Davis was found shot in the left cheek and upper right groin. Police found the teen lying on his back on the front porch of his Willis Avenue home at 11:56 p.m. Police said his hands were still in his coat pockets upon their arrival.
His pockets contained multiple bags of suspected marijuana. Police also noted a small black digital scale on the porch next to the teenager.
Capt. Mark Milstead, Youngstown police, said detectives are following leads in the case. He is asking that anyone with information call 330-746-CLUE.
Police also have made no arrest, but are questioning a 70-year-old East Side man in what appears to be an unprovoked shooting of a dog Sunday. The dog was walking with a group of kids on Lyden Avenue.
Reports say the Lyden Avenue man pointed what is believed to be a shotgun out of the window of his truck and shot the dog about 3:30 p.m.
The group of kids identified the man to police.
Police spoke to the man who adamantly denied shooting the dog. Officers tested the man’s hands for gunshot residue and confiscated two firearms, one being a shotgun, from the man’s home.
Police said the man showed frustration about loose dogs running through the neighborhood.
Police are also investigating a Sunday shooting incident that started as a domestic argument. A 31-year-old McGuffey Road man told police he was near Elm Street and Park Avenue with a female friend when the woman’s boyfriend showed up and began to argue with him.
The man said the boyfriend ultimately shot him in the hip and pistol whipped him.
The woman drove him to St. Elizabeth Health Center, dropped him off and left prior to police arrival.
An East Side woman told police she has no idea who shot up her Atkinson Avenue home early Sunday.
Reports say the house and a car in the driveway were fired upon by two separate weapons leaving more than 20 holes in the car and structure.
Police believe a shotgun and assault rifle were used in the attack.
The 35-year-old woman lives in the house with her three children ages 8, 17, and 19, but no one was injured in the shooting.
