Gas prices drop in Valley and Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN

The cost of gasoline in the Mahoning Valley is down 6 cents a gallon from last week, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

Gas in the Valley costs $3.54 for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline, down from $3.60 last week.

Meanwhile, gas in Ohio dropped 15 cents per gallon during the last week, according to a survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.

Regular-grade gasoline is averaging $3.49 a gallon statewide, compared with $3.64 a week ago.

Gas remains more expensive than it was last year at this time, when regular was averaging $2.75 in Ohio.

Home sales rise in August in Valley

YOUNGSTOWN

Home sales in the Mahoning Valley rose in August, according to statistics released today by the Youngstown-Columbiana Association of Realtors.

There were 167 homes sold in Mahoning County during August; 151 in Trumbull and 69 in Columbiana.

Those numbers are increases from August 2010 totals, when 155 homes were sold in Mahoning County, 140 in Trumbull and 60 in Columbiana.

In Mahoning County, the average home selling price rose from $99,434 to $109,154 this year.

But in Trumbull County, the average fell from $68,165 to $64,724.

In Columbiana County, the average selling price decreased from $86,887 in August 2010 to $84,556 this August.
