A woman told police that a man tried to abduct her 10-year-old daughter. The attempted abduction happened around 7 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Coitsville Road, police report. The child told police a man pulled her behind a tree in a yard at her home. He shoved a leaf in her mouth and began to grunt or growl at her. When her mother began calling for her daughter from the front yard, the man ran into the woods behind the house, the report says. The man was about 5’8” tall, had brownish-green eyes and a dark complexion, police report.

Canine Carnival

Friends of Paws Town will have its second annual Canine Carnival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Boardman Park. Friends of Paws Town is a nonprofit organization that is raising money for Mahoning County’s first enclosed dog park, “Marge Hartman’s Paws Town,” which will be near the Southern Boulevard entrance of Boardman Park. The organization received a $60,000 grant from the Marge Hartman Family Foundation to fund the park’s construction. Proceeds from the carnival will help pay for water and agility equipment in the park. Events at the carnival include a dog costume contest, puppy- chow-eating contest, training exhibitions, dog-kissing booth, raffles and a Chinese auction.

Man hit by van

WARREN

A 21-year-old Tod Avenue Northwest man reported being hit by a van driven by his wife’s boyfriend Saturday night, causing abrasions to his chest and shoulder. The victim said he was walking home through the parking lot of Imperial Skilled Nursing Home, 4121 Tod Avenue Northwest, at 11:15 p.m. when he saw the van and looked inside to see if his wife was inside. The driver started the van and drove at him, striking him and knocking him down, he said. No charges have been filed.

Police investigate fight

WARREN

Police investigated a large fight involving a gunshot at the corner of Hamilton Street and Austin Avenue Southwest at 11:40 p.m. Saturday. A 19-year-old Warren man was questioned about the gunfire after a 29-year-old Warren man said the 19-year-old fired a gun at him. Witnesses said the dispute started over a dice game. Three adults and a 16-year-old were questioned, but no charges related to the gunshot were filed as of Monday afternoon. Two handguns were found in a home on Austin Avenue where police went to talk to a suspect.

Screaming woman

A woman who was screaming at cars and people in the parking lot of Steel Valley Fitness on Youngstown-Poland Road was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police said a patrol officer went to the parking lot at 3:48 p.m. Saturday after two people reported the woman to him. The patrol officer had to call for backup because the woman resisted being put in handcuffs and continued to scream vulgarities at the officer, the report says. The woman was taken to the Struthers police station. The Mahoning County jail refused to take her, and she was taken to St. Elizabeth’s, the police report says. Struthers Municipal Court said there are no charges filed in the case.

Facing multiple charges

A 26-year-old Youngstown man will appear in court here today, facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, complicity to drug trafficking, permitting drug abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Christopher Lavear Anderson, of Sherwood Avenue, was arrested Thursday afternoon on Market Street in Boardman. Boardman police said an investigation led them Anderson, who was driving a car with 17-year-old Rushie L. Scott as a passenger. Scott, also of Sherwood Avenue, is accused of trafficking in heroin and marijuana, reports state. Police said they also found a large knife in the car that Anderson claimed as his. Scott was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center and Anderson was taken to Mahoning County jail.
