Lorain names park, school after WWII admiral

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — The admiral who led the U.S. Navy during World War II now has both a school and a park named in his honor in his Ohio hometown.

Both sites were dedicated to Adm. Ernest King on Sunday in Lorain, about 25 miles west of Cleveland.

King’s grandson, Egerton King van den Berg, told The Morning Journal newspaper that the admiral has not received the credit he deserved. Van den Berg says the family is “thrilled” Lorain’s new tributes to King, who was commander in chief of the U.S. fleet.

The park is across from King’s childhood home. Two fifth-graders spoke during the dedication of Admiral King Elementary School and said they were proud of its name.
