A computer isn’t the postman

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the postal service switching to a three-day-a-week delivery schedule. They feel that computers and private delivery services such as FedEx and UPS can handle the job. Unfortunately, even in today’s electronic age many people, including many seniors, do not have computers or are not computer savvy.

There are many costs involved in having a computer. First the purchase price, which could be several hundred dollars. Then you must subscribe to an internet service. You should also buy virus protection. Then you need a printer and keep it supplied with paper and those not-so-cheap ink cartridges, if you want a hard copy of anything. You could very well spend at least $300 a year or more to maintain your computer. Is it worth it in these tough economic times?

Not to date myself, but I can recall when we had twice a day home delivery.

How the world has changed.
