MINNEAPOLIS
Carlos Santana hit his 25th home run and Jeanmar Gomez pitched effectively into the seventh inning as the Indians sent the Twins to their seventh straight loss. Gomez (4-2) won his fourth straight start since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Aug. 30. He tweaked his right knee trying to make a play and left. Anthony Swarzak (3-7) took the loss. Chris Parmelee had three RBIs and three hits, including a two-run homer for the Twins.

TORONTO
Mariano Rivera tied the major league saves record, earning the 601st of his career and matching Trevor Hoffman while preserving New York’s win. Curtis Granderson hit his 40th homer, a go-ahead shot in the seventh to cap a 12 pitch at-bat. He fouled off seven straight pitches before homering.
Rays 4, Red Sox 3
BOSTON
Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer off Jon Lester to help trim Boston’s lead in the AL wild-card race to three games. Jeff Niemann (11-7) pitched five solid innings for Tampa Bay, which has won seven of its last eight against Boston. The Red Sox have lost 10 of their last 13 games since Sept. 3, when they led the wild-card race by nine games.
Athletics 5, Tigers 3
OAKLAND, Calif.
Gio Gonzalez pitched seven innings for his 14th win and Oakland turned three double plays in the first five innings and the Athletics beat the AL Central champion Detroit Tigers. Magglio Ordonez had three hits and scored the only run for Detroit, which clinched the division on Friday.

ATLANTA
Tim Hudson struck out 10 and Chipper Jones hit an RBI single in the eighth inning as the Braves held their NL wild-card edge by beating the Mets.

CHICAGO
Houston lost 100 games in a season for the first time in franchise history, squandering a bases-loaded chance in the ninth inning and falling to Rodrigo Lopez and Chicago.
Brewers 10, Reds 1
CINCINNATI
Yovani Gallardo struck out a career-high 13 and Ryan Braun hit his third home run in two nights to help the Milwaukee Brewers inch closer to a Central Division championship. Yuniesky Betancourt also homered and Gallardo pulled off the rare feat of striking out four batters in one inning as the Brewers lowered their magic number to five with their fourth win in their last five games and St. Louis’s loss at Philadelphia.
Phillies 9, Cardinals 2
PHILADELPHIA
Roy Oswalt threw seven dominant innings, Raul Ibanez hit a grand slam and the Philadelphia Phillies clinched their fifth straight NL East title. Oswalt (8-9) allowed no runs and five hits, striking out seven. Brad Lidge got one out in the eighth after Michael Stutes ran into trouble.
