TOLEDO

Kellen Moore was just about perfect again, throwing for 455 yards and five touchdowns to lead No. 4 Boise State to a 40-15 victory over Toledo on Friday night.

Moore misfired on his first two throws but didn’t miss many after that, connecting on 32 of 42 passes.

Still, the Broncos’ offense sputtered early after not playing for nearly two weeks following their season-opening win against Georgia.

It looked for a while as if Toledo (1-2) might give Boise State a scare just six days after the Rockets came within a play or two of knocking off No. 17 Ohio State. But the Rockets couldn’t stop Moore.

The Broncos (2-0) were leading 13-6 when they got the ball back with 1:22 left in the first half and marched right down the field for a key touchdown.

Moore connected on six consecutive passes to get down to the 1. He then lofted a throw into the corner to Tyler Shoemaker for a little breathing room.

Moore also tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Shoemaker.

Ohio State-Miami

No. 17 Ohio State and Miami are about to get a three-hour respite from talk of scandals by playing each other.

Both teams will have players still suspended for tonight’s matchup because of ongoing investigations into violations at each school. Although the harshest sanctions are likely yet to come, the Hurricanes and Buckeyes will have deeper rosters for this game.

Miami has five players returning after one-game suspensions for taking extra benefits from a former booster. Ohio State had three players who accepted $200 from a booster at a charity event reinstated this week.

The Buckeyes still are missing four players from a memorabilia-for-tattoos scandal that ultimately led to the departures of quarterback Terrelle Pryor and coach Jim Tressel. Miami will have three more players ineligible until next month.

Penn State-Temple

Seventy years. That’s how long it’s been since Temple last defeated Penn State.

Today the Owls have their latest chance to end the streak. Under first-year coach Steve Addazio, they believe this is their best chance yet.

Temple has not defeated Penn State since a 14-0 victory on Oct. 18, 1941. The teams tied 7-7 in 1950. The Owls lost by one point in both 1975 and 1976.

Notre DAME-MICHIGAN STATE

It’s only the 16th game of Brian Kelly’s coaching career at Notre Dame as the Irish face No. 15 face Michigan State. For the many fans growing impatient at an 0-2 start, today’s matchup could be the most crucial of his short tenure.

Kelly says he’s not listening to the critics who are wondering why the Irish can’t stop making mistakes or losing close games.

Another loss would give the Irish an 0-3 record for the first time since they dropped their first five in 2007 under Charlie Weis and would leave Kelly with a .500 record at South Bend. It would also pretty much wreck Notre Dame’s chances of making a BCS bowl.
