CVMS runners excel at Marlington Invite


Canfield Village Middle School runner Chase Kern battled the 90-plus degree temperatures to post a time of 11:47 and win Marlington Invitational cross country race.

Kern’s two-mile victory bested second-place finisher Ben Tornow of Louisville by 13 seconds.

Rounding out the top seven for the Canfield boys were Tommy Donadee (22nd, 13:17), Slava Lefoer (24th, 13:29), Ryan Motolenich (34th, 14:03), Daniel Sylak (40th, 14:22), Victor Stefanides (41st, 14:25) and Tyler Napolitano (55th, 14:47).

The top four teams were Louisville, Field, Carrollton and Canfield.

In the girls’ division, 14 teams with 149 runners participated. The Canfield Middle School girls’ team remained undefeated for the season by winning its third title of the season.

Canfield beat runner-up Louisville by 32 points and placed four runners in the top 10. Leading the way for the Cardinals was Rachel Rostek, who took fifth overall with a time of 13:58. She was followed by Victoria Pacheco (seventh, 14:09), Marissa Cashbaugh (eighth, 14:11), Jenny McClune (10th, 14:14), Raquel Markulin (20th, 15:01), Londyn Glass (57th, 16:38) and Katelyn Yohman (65th, 17:03).
