Members of Canfield Cub Scout Pack 25 and prospective Scouts competed in a doughnut-eating contest at last year’s Roundup at Brown Pavilion at Camp Stambaugh. The Roundup takes place each year in September to enable interested boys to experience Scouting. This year’s event will be Sept. 26.

CANFIELD

Canfield Cub Scout Pack 25 is inviting prospective Cub Scouts to its annual Roundup at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Camp Stambaugh’s Brown Pavilion on Leffingwell Road.

Information will be provided on what it means to be a Cub Scout, what Scouts do and what purpose they serve, and everyone will have an opportunity to hike through Camp Stambaugh and take part in a few activities.

Drawings will take place for a $25 gift certificate to Outdoor Recreational Equipment in Boardman for one new Scout and one current Scout who takes a friend who registers for the pack.

Scouting focuses on citizenship training, character development and personal fitness, which are learned through activities that contribute to a boy’s sense of belonging.

The pack has a monthly activity for all boys in first through fifth grades. Similarly aged boys are divided into dens, which conduct meetings twice a month to explore topics to earn advancements, such as belt loops, patches or pins. Meetings take place from September through June, with summer day or overnight camp experiences as an option.

Cub Scouts provides an opportunity for parents or guardians and sons to explore new experiences together. Experiences change yearly but have included a visit with a taxidermist, a tour of a television station, a sleep-over on the Scrappers baseball field, participation in the annual Pinewood Derby Race and a cake auction, and marching in parades. Boys can also earn belt loops through individual efforts.

Costs for Scouting include purchasing the uniform, patches and book, some activity fees and fees for parents or siblings to participate. Many of the fees can be offset by the Scout’s participation in fundraising efforts. The pack pays for annual national dues.

Anyone interested in attending the roundup or becoming a Cub Scout should contact Troy or Stephanie Homrighausen at 330-533-1237. Reservations are appreciated but not required. For more information about Scouting, visit www.scouting.org.
