Boys soccer team ties Canfield, Lakeview
Battling the heat with frequent water breaks, the Boardman boys soccer team and opponent Canfield recently played to a 2-all tie.
Boardman senior captain Christian Silvestri and junior Nico DiIanni each scored. Senior Nico Graziani registered an assist on DiIanni’s goal, while junior Anthony Calautti had five saves as goal keeper.
The junior varsity teams also tied, 1-1. Freshman Zach Fryda scored for the Spartans, while his brother Brian had six saves in the nets.
Boardman logged its second tie of the season at Lakeview by a score of 4-4. Silvestri scored twice for the Spartans and also registered one assist. Senior captain Matt Horvatich had one goal and two assists. Sophomore Luke Marsco capped Boardman’s scoring effort, while Nico DiIanni was credited for an assist. Calautti had eight saves in goal.
Both matches were tied on penalty kicks awarded to the Cardinals and the Bulldogs with under three minutes remaining in each game.
The junior varsity team defeated Lakeview 3-2. Goals were scored by sophomore Sam Mathey and freshmen Yusef Ramahi and Anthony Pallante. Mathey and freshman Zach Stamp logged assists. Brian Fryda had five saves as keeper.
The varsity team now holds a 2-1-2 record on the season with a 1-0 Federal League mark. The junior varsity’s record stands at 3-1-1 and 1-0 in the Federal League.
