Youngstown State University’s “Homework Express” television show began its seventh season this week.

The call-in show, which helps middle-school students with their math homework, is broadcast to more than a million households throughout Northeast Ohio.

Live programs are broadcast from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Repeats air Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and on MyYTV at 10 a.m. Saturdays.

The show, which is on Time Warner’s NEON Network (Channel 20) and on Armstrong Cable (Channel 23) in Youngstown, originates from the television studio in Bliss Hall at YSU.

The crew for the show, including the writers, line producers and directors, are Telecommunications Studies students in the YSU College of Fine and Performing Arts. Science and math segments, taped and edited by the student crew, are also featured.

These include everything from flying the Goodyear Blimp to coverage of robotics competitions.

Host Kelly Stevens from Hot 101 Radio and Math teachers Tom and Amy Burd from Warren Schools, Judy Moschella from Youngstown Schools and Kristy Fill, a teacher in Girard, field calls from throughout the viewing area.

The program is only partially funded by YSU. The remainder of funding comes from underwriting sponsorships.

Fred Owens, project director, said underwriting sponsors are needed for the season, including participating sponsors whose announcements appear throughout the program as well as in-kind sponsors who provide gifts awarded to student callers.

Interested sponsors should contact Owens at fowens@ysu.edu or 330-941-1855.
