ALLIANCES

Ohio Cultural Alliance will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 for its dinner meeting. The speaker will be Dr. Regina Rees, a professor in the department of education at Youngstown State University. Carol Weakland will perform Henry James’ “Turn of the Screw.” The meeting will be at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4530 Canfield Road in Canfield. Jean Filmer and church members will prepare the meal. Membership runs from Sept. 2011 to June 2012 and costs $25 per person. Cost per meeting is $15 for each paid-up member and $20 for each nonmember. Mail reservations to OCA, P.O. Box 561, Canfield OH 44406-0561 no later than Sept. 27. Those who attend are urged to take nonperishable food items for donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

AUXILIARIES

St. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary will meet at noon Monday in the private dining room. Sister Ann McManamon, H.M., director of Dorothy Day House, will be the speaker. New members are welcome.

Girard High School Athletic Boosters will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the high school cafeteria.

CLASSES

Chapter CE of the PEO Sisterhood will meet Wednesday at A La Cart in Canfield for a noon luncheon. The program will be “A Trip to Japan.” The speaker will be Shirley Goist. Hostesses are Ginny Gaskeen and Lynn Doyle Pentworth.

KSU Mothers Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dona Vito’s Italian Grille, 139 S. Bridge St., Struthers. The program, by Jo Ann Ellis, will be “Some Interesting Information.” Hostesses are Ronda Jerek, Susan Campell and Delores Vinkler.

McDonald Arts and Crafts Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Community Room at the post office building.

WRARC will preside, and the program topic will be QRP low power communications. POLITICAL CLUBS

The League of Women Voters of Trumbull County will host their first membership meeting for 2011-2012 at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the board of elections, 2947 Youngstown Road, Warren. Guest speaker will be Kelly Pallante, who will answer questions on the latest changes affecting the voting process. A tour of the board offices will be given and light refreshments will be served. The League invites all women interested in educating themselves on the roles of local, state and federal politics to attend. The League is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. This year, the League will again distribute the free “Voter Information Guide” to area sites before election time. RELIGIOUS GROUPS

Community Christian Women will have its first meeting of the year at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at East Fairfield Methodist Church. Kimberly Starr of Columbiana will present a program on “Christian Yoga and Wellness.” All women are invited to attend. The group meets regularly on the second Monday of each month, October through May, at 12:30 p.m. The host church provides the lunch for a cost of $6 — $5 for the meal, and $1 for expenses incurred in “The Clip” newsletter and for speakers. Everyone is encouraged to contribute news items, poems, recipes, quips and quotes for the newsletter, which is distributed at each meeting.

Court Bishop James McFadden 1650, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sunrise Assisted Living, 335 McKinley Way West, Poland. The book for the coming year, through June 2012, will be reviewed. National CDA Day will be celebrated by the court on St. Dominic’s Rosary Sunday, Oct. 2. SINGLES

DARE Singles Group is a social group for divorced, widowed, and separated people. The group meets at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, across from Giant Eagle. Portage County Chapter 600 of International Parents Without Partners will have a dinner to celebrate Oktoberfest from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at Kent VFW 3703 Post home, 500 VFW Parkway, off Stow Road, in Kent. The club is mainly an education and family group, but is active in other endeavors so members can have fun with other adults as well as their children.

Divorce Recovery Workshop helps people heal from divorce in a loving, supportive environment using DVD teaching, small group discussion and caring people who have been there. VETERANS

ITAM Post 3 Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the post on Meridian Road. Officers for 2011-2012 will be elected.
