NEW CASTLE, Pa. — City police have a suspect in the shooting death of a man who tried to break up a fight.
Dajuan M. Dawson, 24, was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, a firearms violation, reckless endangering and simple assault, police said today.
He is accused of shooting Zamara Stelter, 35, outside 1107 Pin Oak Drive around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Dawson remains at large.
Stelter was shot in the head and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He died early Wednesday morning.
Police said Stetler was trying to break up a fight between two women when he was shot.

The first and second were Jan. 21, when Ljuba Novosel, 40, turned a gun on her 12-year-old son Tomislav Novosel and her 81-year-old mother, Anka Denk, at the family’s South Mercer Street home. She then killed herself.
Jason Pegg, 32, of East Street was shot to death Aug. 24. His landlord, Kevin Boyer, 38, is charged in the crime.
Gordon Rees, 31, was gunned down on Williams Street on Aug. 30 in a road-rage episode. Markus Solomon, 18, is charged in that shooting.
