Ohio woman ‘in a real pickle’ hauls trash to mayor’s office

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio

An Ohio woman frustrated by the mix-up of the trash pick-up schedule after the Labor Day holiday decided to haul her own garbage — right into her mayor’s office.

Janice Shanks carried two bags of refuse into Portsmouth Mayor David Malone’s office last Friday morning.

Shanks says she had more garbage than normal because of a holiday family get- together, and the lack of collection put her in “a real pickle.”

Malone accepted the trash and says he will take it to the city’s waste-disposal department.

Malone says certain routes were skipped so the city could avoid paying overtime for the holiday work. He says there was confusion over how notice was sent out to residents.

Police say Pa. woman came to court with case of beer

PITTSBURGH

This is not the kind of case you normally see in court.

Authorities say a woman believed to be drunk showed up at a Pittsburgh courthouse with a case of beer.

WPXI-TV reports that the woman, whose name hasn’t been released, was slurring her speech and carrying an open case of Big City Ice beer.

After a few minutes of questioning last Thursday, deputies said they realized the woman was highly intoxicated and had no reason for being in the building.

They said she even offered the deputies a beer as long as she could keep the rest for herself.

Police said the beer was seized and poured down a drain. She was then escorted off of the property.
