Judge overrules pharmacist’s motion

YOUNGSTOWN

A Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge has overruled a motion by Gary Evankovich, the pharmacist convicted of 24 felony counts of sale of dangerous drugs in an Internet prescription scheme, for early release from his three years’ probation.

Judge Lou A. D’Apolito, who put Evankovich on probation in February, offered no explanation for his Wednesday ruling.

The pharmacy license of Evankovich, 56, of Boardman, a former owner of North Lima and Bel-Park pharmacies, was suspended in March by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy and expires today.

The prosecutor opposed early termination of Evankovich’s probation.

Honored for audits

The Ohio auditor honored two local municipalities and three Mahoning Valley school districts with the Auditor of State Award for having clean, annual audit reports.

Those honored by Auditor Dave Yost are the city of Canfield, the village of Columbiana, the Niles City School District, the Lakeview Local School District and the Crestview Local School District.

William “Scott” Kennedy, the former longtime Y-103 morning disc jockey, has been moved to the low- security unit at the Allenwood Federal Correctional Institution in White Deer, Pa., after his sentencing for possession of child pornography.

A federal judge in Pittsburgh sentenced Kennedy, 55, of Hermitage, Pa., on Aug. 25 after he pleaded guilty to the charge May 3.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons projects Kennedy’s release date as Jan. 14, 2015. Kennedy had been detained in Beaver County, Pa., jail before his sentencing.

Court records show Kennedy has paid his $25,000 fine and made $3,550 in restitution to a child sexual-abuse victim shown in the images Kennedy possessed.
