Canfield
A Canfield teen who went missing more than a month ago is believed to still be in the Youngstown area.
Jeffrey Burke, 17, was last seen Aug. 8, according to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Burke is a white male, 5 feet 6 inches tall with hazel eyes and brown hair. He weighs about 135 pounds.
He may be in the company of an adult male and may still be in the local area, according to NCMEC.
Anyone with information on Burke’s whereabouts is asked to call 800-843-5678.
Calls are kept confidential and may be made anonymously.
Shrine convention
NORTH LIMA
More than 3,000 Shriners will descend on the Mahoning Valley today for the Great Lakes Shrine Association Convention. The convention continues until Saturday.
The Shriners, about 600,000 in total number, support 21 hospitals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico serving children up to 18 years old needing orthopedic or burn care, regardless of their ability to pay, according to a news release.
In addition to their convention meetings, there will be Shrine unit competition at 10 a.m. Friday and vehicles will be at the former Value City parking lot on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman.
Horses will be at the Canfield Fairgrounds, and patrols, pipes and drums will be at the Youngstown Shrine Club in North Lima.
A parade of all Shrine units will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in North Lima.
Free lunch
YOUNGSTOWN
St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., will serve a free lunch from noon to 2 p.m. today.
Social time
NEW WATERFORD
Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 State Route 46, will offer Fifth Quarter, a recreational and social time for Crestview middle- and high- school students, after high- school football games.
Sessions will be Friday and Sept. 23 and Oct. 14. Doors will be open from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Students can play basketball, table games, board and card games, listen to music, have pizza and just hang out together.
The free program is in its third year.
