Couple arrested in Sharon store burglary

Staff report

Sharon, pa.

Police have arrested a Sharon couple in the burglary of a jewelry store on State Street.

The Gold Mind was burglarized Aug. 31. Police got a call to go to the store at 2:45 a.m., said Sharon Police Capt. Travis Martwinski.

The store buys and sells pre-owned jewelry and coins.

When police arrived, they found the front window broken and several display cases smashed.

Martwinski said the man who called police, Emile Pratt Jr., 28, of 376 Ellsworth St., presented himself as a witness. He told police he was several blocks away when he heard the breaking glass and the store’s alarm.

Martwinski said, however, that it was Pratt and his wife, Candyce Pratt, 29, also of 376 Ellsworth St., who were arrested Monday in the burglary.

Martwinski said that after the burglary, in which more than 100 pieces of jewelry were stolen, the jewelry started turning up in pawn shops in the region.

The Pratts were on video in several of the pawn shops, he said.

Martwinski said that Thursday, police received consent to search the Pratts’ house.

“We found 50-plus pieces of jewelry in their house,” he said Tuesday.

The Pratts were arraigned Monday on charges of burglary and criminal trespass.

Martwinski said police anticipate adding receiving-stolen-property charges before the couple’s preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 23.

Both Pratts were at the Mercer County Jail on Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bonds each.
