sharon, pa.

Police quickly caught two men who broke into a home in the 100 block of Sharpsville Avenue, beat a resident, held a gun to his grandmother’s head and put a toddler in danger.

Two 18-year-old women were also in the home when the men broke in around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. One managed to escape and call police, who arrived as the men were running away.

Sharon Police Capt. Travis Martwinski said David Kennedy, 25, of Bend Road in Mercer, Pa., and Jeffrey Pumphrey Jr., 27, of Emerson Avenue in Farrell, Pa., were arraigned Sunday and taken to the Mercer County Jail on $100,000 bond each. They remained in jail Tuesday, Martwinski said.

He said that during the home invasion, the 24-year-old resident was pistol-whipped and beaten with fists.

The men were holding a gun to the 57-year-old grandmother’s head when there was a struggle and the gun discharged twice into a wall, Martwinski said.

A 3-year-old girl was in the room at the time.

Martwinski said police chased the men and found one under a parked car several blocks away.

The other was found running through a parking lot.

The assault victim had bruises and cuts on his face and head. Martwinski was unsure if he was treated at a hospital.
