Man robbed while walking to store

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a South Side man walking to a corner store shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

Police said the 18-year-old Brooklyn Avenue man was walking along Philadelphia Avenue heading to a store to buy some cigarettes when he was approached by two black males appearing to be about 20 years old and wearing all dark clothing.

The man told police one of the would-be thieves asked if he smoked “weed” to which he replied no he was headed to get some cigarettes. The man told police one of the men pulled out a handgun and the other went through his pockets taking a cell phone, $20 and some cigarettes.

The two armed men ran off through the rear yard of a nearby house.
