Fire station renovation done

The township’s Fire Station No. 3 is up and running again after a six-month renovation.
Fire Chief Andy Frost Jr. said the 13 part-time firefighters, who were displaced to another Austintown station during the construction, moved back into the Raccoon Road station Monday.
“We’re happy to get back into it,” he said. “It’s beautiful.”
In 2009, the department secured a $333,000 grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to update the part-time station on Raccoon Road, which was built in 1959 making it the department’s oldest station.
A two-story addition was built on to the back of the station that will house living quarters and bathrooms for men and women, Assistant Chief Andy Frost III said previously, and a new kitchen with new appliances and cabinets was also installed.
Frost Jr. said Lane Ambulance is expected to move crews back into the station today. Lane’s employees are housed at the station on 24-hour shifts.
He said the department will have an official open house sometime at the beginning of October.
The fire department’s newest ladder truck, purchased with a $500,000 federal grant, went into operation Sunday following the 9/11 memorial service. Frost Jr. said the truck will operate out of the Raccoon Road station.
