The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will present a lecture by Anne Frank’s stepsister, Eva Schloss, and her husband Tzvi Schloss from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the center.

The couple will present “A Light in the Darkness: A Story of Hope,” an original play that focuses on Eva’s brother, Hans, who did not survive the Holocaust. Lunch will be provided. Cost is $7 for members, $10 for nonmembers.

Dahlkemper to speak at Mercer Dem brunch

Former U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper will be the keynote speaker for the Democrat Women of Mercer County’s annual membership drive brunch Saturday, talking about the need to elect more women to federal, state and local offices.

Appleseed Festival to honor veterans

LISBON

The 44th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival in historic downtown Lisbon gets under way at 11 a.m. Saturday with the traditional grand parade, with this year’s theme paying tribute to America’s veterans.

Ongoing events at the two-day festival include a photography contest, student art contest, quilt show, continuing stage entertainment and food and commercial vendors.

Festival hours Sunday are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature a pet parade at 1 p.m. and a biker’s show from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call the chamber office at 330-424-1803.
