A 51-year-old Worchester, Mass., man is in serious condition after he crashed his SUV into the rear of a tractor-trailer on the Ohio Turnpike.
William F. Hornsberger, who was driving a Mitsubishi Montero SUV, hit the back of the vehicle in front of him at 9:57 a.m. Saturday just east of the 232 mile marker on the turnpike in Beaver Township, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper said.
The crash caused Hornsberger’s vehicle, which was traveling eastbound, to flip off the side of the highway. He was transported by a helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for serious injuries, the trooper said.
The eastbound lane of the turnpike was closed for about an hour because of the use of the helicopter.
Charges are pending.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, William J. Charvat, 45, of Lima, was not injured.
