Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will have its semiannual picnic Monday at Glenellen Assisted Living, 9661 Market St., Boardman. The open house will be in conjunction with the September “Welcome Back” dinner at 6:30 p.m. and general meeting at 7:30. All members are asked to take a covered dish for the picnic and school supplies to donate to a local school. The League is open to all women over 18 who reside in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement in the arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. Friends of Boardman Library will resume their monthly meetings Monday in the library’s community room. The group is looking for new members, and anyone interested is welcome to attend as a guest. The Friends meet the second Monday of each month, with a social hour and refreshments at 9:30 a.m., followed by a program of various topics at 10 a.m. Meetings are September through June, with a two-month summer hiatus. Dues are $10 per year. September’s program will be “The English Festival,” presented by Dr. Melanie Loew of the Youngstown State University English department. League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will meet Sept. 19 in the Community Room of the Main Library on Wick Avenue. A social will begin at 6:30 p.m., and at 7, the program “Sojourn to the Past” will begin. Presenting the program will be Penny Wells and Youngstown City Schools students who have traveled to the South, experiencing sites and people integral to the Civil Rights Movement.
