NY couple pleads guilty in 4 pharmacy killings

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — A New York couple has pleaded guilty in a pharmacy robbery for prescription painkillers that left four people dead.

David Laffer pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges today in Suffolk County Court on Long Island. His wife, Melinda Brady, pleaded guilty to robbery.

Laffer walked into the Haven Drugs pharmacy in Medford on June 19. He shot and killed a pharmacist and 17-year-old store clerk, as well as two customers who walked in on the carnage.

Prosecutors say Brady drove the getaway car. She was not charged with murder because prosecutors say they could not prove she knew of Laffer’s plan to kill the victims.
