Experience an Amish wedding feast

Staff report

VOLANT, Pa.

Folks can experience the Amish wedding experience at a series of feasts at Amish Countryside Village, on Pa. Route 208, six miles west of Grove City Premium Outlets.

“This special glimpse into the Amish culture begins with a young man’s attempt at courting a young woman and ends with a typical home-cooked wedding feast served Amish style,” said Karen Rockenstein of the Volant Community Development Corporation, which is sponsoring the event.

“Every attempt has been made to make this an authentic and respectful representation of Amish beliefs.”

The first in the series will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 in The Meeting House, 600 Main St. Reservations and prepayments of $29.95 per person are required by calling 724-533-5611.

Seating is limited. The feasts will be repeated the third Friday of each month, excluding December. Private-group bookings are available.

Along with each course served, a knowledgeable host will guide the guests through the simplistic lifestyle and courting customs performed at an Amish wedding reception.

A home-cooked Amish-style meal will be prepared and served, the same as it would be for a social gathering after an Amish wedding. Guests should bring their singing voice and appetite.
