Convention coming

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown area has been selected as the host city for the Great Lakes Shrine Association Convention, Sept. 14 to 18, with more than 1,500 attendees expected.

The Shriners are known worldwide for their work with Shrine Hospitals for children and a wide range of community-service programs. The convention will bring significant business and awareness to the Mahoning Valley, organizers said. In addition to the convention itself, area residents will be treated to a number of events and competitions: clown competitions at the Holiday Inn Boardman, mounted horsemen events at the Canfield Fairgrounds, motorcycle and motor-cart competitions at the Boardman Value City parking lot, and a parade in North Lima.

Water pressure

Girard

Girard will decrease water pressure to service areas in Liberty from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday. In a statement, Girard said the decrease is needed in order to make necessary water line repairs along Church Hill Road.

Payment received

Liberty

Liberty schools Treasurer James Wilson said the district received Wednesday the $250,000 installment that was part of its settlement agreement with its two former community schools.

School board members said they would rescind the suspension of operations for the community schools Liberty Exemplary Academic Design and Liberty Early Academic Resource Nest.

Infant death probed

Police and the Trumbull County Coroner’s office are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl living on Transylvania Avenue Southeast. A’Nana L. Brantley was found dead in an upstairs bedroom at 8 a.m. Additional information was not available.

Driver robbed

WARREN

A delivery driver for the Happy Dragon Chinese restaurant on Parkman Road Northwest reported being robbed and assaulted Tuesday evening by three men in an apartment on Southern Boulevard Northwest.

The driver, 52, said he was approached by three men on the second floor at 9:06 p.m. After turning his back on them, one man put a bag over his head, then his arms were pulled behind his back, and he was slammed against a wall.

The men took money from his pocket and the food he was delivering.

Home break-in

new castle, pa.

A Neshannock Township woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint by two men who broke into her home on Clover Lane. She told police she was home alone at 11 p.m. Tuesday when the men came in. One was 6 feet tall with dirty blond hair, a buzz haircut and a pot belly. The other was about 5 feet 9 inches tall with dark hair, a chinstrap beard and a mustache. They took electronics and $2,000, she told police.

Celebrate the 136th anniversary of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society with a buy-one-get-one-free admission deal at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There also will be storytelling, pioneer artifacts and crafts in the Christman hands-on history room.
