“Engineering Ground Zero” (9 p.m., PBS): “Engineering Ground Zero” is a special “NOVA” installment that tracks the five-year construction of 1 World Trade Center and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Included: Interviews with architect David Childs and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“RESCUE ME” SERIES FINALE (10 p.m., fx): It seems only fitting, that in a television week crammed with 9/11 anniversary remembrances, this landmark drama about New York firefighters brings an end to its impressive seven-season run. The trauma of 9/11, after all, had a profound effect on the tone of the series and on the personalities of its characters — especially angst-ridden Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary). We don’t know what the finale will bring for Tommy, who over the years has had to cope with marital strife, death and woes brought on by his self-destructive behavior. But we were encouraged to recently hear that series co-creator Peter Tolan wants to leave things in a “hopeful” place.
