2nd Ohio woman dies after crash at covered stop sign
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A second woman injured in a crash at an Ohio stop sign concealed with petroleum jelly and plastic wrap in what authorities say was a prank has died.
Lt. John Monce with the sheriff’s office in central Ohio’s Pickaway County says 81-year-old Jeanne Shea of Circleville died today. She’d been hospitalized in Columbus since Aug. 17, when investigators say she drove through the stop sign and collided with another vehicle.
An autopsy was planned for Wednesday.
Shea’s passenger, her 85-year-old sister Mary Spangler, died in the crash.
Two men accused of covering the sign have pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Spangler’s death. Pickaway County Prosecutor Mary Wolford said Wednesday she needed further information before she could say whether she’d pursue additional charges.
