Singing Star contest registration this week

YOUNGSTOWN

Registration for Singing Star, a singing competition at Powers Auditorium, will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The winner will receive a $5,000 prize.

The contest is open to legal U.S. citizens who are between age 15 and 28 as of June 26. Registration fee is $25.

At the time of registration, contestants will be asked to complete a registration form and a release form and also may submit a head-shot photo if they have one.

Singing Star staff will take head shots for those who do not already have them. Registration and release forms can be downloaded in advance at youngstownsymphony.com.

The first round of Singing Star will be at noon Sunday at Powers Auditorium. Twenty contestants will advance to the semi-final round.

In the first round, contestants will sing one song without music or instrumental accompaniment of any genre that is no longer than one minute.

Also, a “people’s-choice” round will be Sept. 17 at Southern Park Mall. Eight contestants from the semifinal round, plus one from the people’s-choice round, will advance to the finals. The semifinal and final rounds will be in October.
