Apartment fire causes $20,000 in damage

An estimated $20,000 damage was caused Monday afternoon by a fire in a second-floor apartment at 550 Nellie St.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time of the blaze, which was reported at 1:45 p.m., but an occupant of the apartment below the fire was treated at an area hospital for smoke inhalation, Brookfield firefighters said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sharon, Pa., Fire Department personnel also responded to the fire. The fire was extinguished and the scene cleared at 4 p.m.
