Bike night to honor US military forces
AUSTINTOWN
Quaker Steak & Lube on Interstate Boulevard will host a special Patriots Day bike night Thursday to pay tribute to America’s armed forces. A ceremony to remember the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, as well as the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, will honor past and present soldiers.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. with the American flag delivered by skydivers. The National Guard will present the colors, followed by the National Anthem and an invocation by Pastor Lou Scalzo of Highway Tabernacle. Military guests representing World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars, Desert Storm and the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq will be introduced.
After a tribute, there will be a 21-gun salute and Korean War veterans will play Taps.
Motorcyclists will enter through a specially designed entrance. A variety of military regalia will be on display in the parking lot, as well as an Orange County Chopper motorcycle that was built to commemorate the New York firefighters who lost their lives on Sept. 11. There also will be a Helicopter Static Display from Stat Medevac, and two NYFD trucks, including Pumper Engine 293 — the only firetruck that survived the World Trade Center collapse.
