Motorcyclist killed in Columbiana Co.

LISBON

A 62-year-old East Liverpool man was killed while traveling eastbound on Columbiana County Route 419, 21/2 miles east of state Route 154 in Elkrun Township.

Nelson Hawkinberry was killed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when his 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan went off the right side of the road and crashed into a fence.

Hawkinberry’s death is the fourth motorcycle fatality in the Valley over the past week. Earlier Saturday about 1:15 a.m., a Lowellville man was struck and killed by a motorist on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman.

OSHP on lookout for impaired drivers

COLUMBUS

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it will be out in full force today removing impaired drivers from Ohio’s roadways.

If you are driving impaired this holiday, you will be arrested, the patrol warns.

Throughout last year’s Labor Day reporting period from 6 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday, 11 people were killed on Ohio roadways, including six accidents that were alcohol-related. During this same period, troopers arrested 539 drivers on OVI charges.

So far this holiday weekend, three people have died in Mahoning Valley traffic accidents.

Computer classes

Youngstown

The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will offer two computer classes this fall with sessions on Wednesdays, Oct. 5-26.

Personal Computer 101, an introductory class from 4 to 5 p.m., will teach participants how to email, browse the Internet and use word- processing applications.

Intermediate Computer 101, scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m., will teach participants how to use the Microsoft Office Suite. Students will also open and use a free email account and send pictures and attachments.

The cost for each is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers.
