Liberty

The township will have a Celebrate Liberty Parade at 9 a.m. Saturday down Church Hill Road led by the Liberty High School marching band.

The parade will begin at Liberty Township Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 415 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, and end at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

The effort to put together the parade began on Facebook.

Teri Nobbs, who remembered 18 years ago when the township had its own parade, before she moved to Las Vegas, wondered what happened to the parade.

“I just posted on Facebook, ‘What happened to the parade?’” said Nobbs, who has moved back to Liberty. “We were bombarded with responses.”

She said other residents commented on her question, and eventually Nobbs went to the Liberty Township Historical Society and the township itself.

The historical society puts on an annual event at Church Hill Park, and the township put on its own Celebration in the Park at Center Park.

The township and historical society, along with several other parts of the Liberty community, decided to combine all events and create a parade.

June Smallwood, the head of the township’s park department, said because Liberty does not have a true center of town, they hope the event will create a true hub.

After the parade and until 5 p.m., there will be vendors, crafters, a car show and the band The Classic Cruisers at Center Park, which is behind the township administration building. The band will play from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event is free.
