A Lowellville man was struck and killed by a car on U.S. Route 224 at 1:12 a.m. Saturday.

Paul P. Macejko, 56, a tow-truck operator who owns Macejko’s Service Station and Towing on State Street in Struthers, was clearing glass from a wreck off the road when he was struck by a car driven by Brandon P. Porter, 27, of Boardman, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Mahoning County coroner’s office pronounced Macejko dead at the scene. The patrol is still investigating.

Computer classes

Warriors Inc. is offering basic computer classes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 13 at the Hope Building, 2733 Market St.

Participants will learn computer terminology and basic computer repairs. They will also learn about Microsoft Windows, online bill-paying and how to email.

Closing parking lots

Youngstown

Multiple parking lots throughout Mill Creek Park will be closed temporarily for the MetroParks’ annual asphalt sealing and preventive maintenance project.

The work is scheduled to begin Wednesday and continue for about two weeks. Lots will be closed for several days, and will reopen once vehicular traffic is permitted.

Several of the prominent lots scheduled for work include Volney Rogers Field (Glenwood Avenue lot), Pioneer Pavilion, Lanterman’s Mill area and Price Road parking lots. While the lots are closed, the facilities they support will remain open and accessible for public use.

Private rentals of cabins and pavilions will not be affected by this project. The public can call the MetroParks administrative office at 330-702-3000 for information.

Workshop to focus on communities

Preservation Pennsylvania and the Lawrence County Historical Society invite the community to attend Preserving Pennsylvania: A Workshop for Communities from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lawrence County Historical Society, 408 N. Jefferson St.

Presented in partnership with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the workshop brings together preservationists and historical-society representatives from across western Pennsylvania to discuss strategies to preserve and protect places that matter.
