ALF 100-pounders lose season-opener

The Austintown Little Falcons 100-pound team began the 2011 season with solid effort, but on the short end of a 36-0 score against the Fighting Little Redmen at Falcon Stadium on Sunday.

Tod Simons led the way for Austintown with 10 tackles and a couple of good runs on offense. Daniel Fetty registered a fumble recovery and five tackles on defense.

Ryan Gordon, Cameron Smith, Hector Pagan, Joseph Serensky and Christian Bermudez all played well in the loss.

120-pounders dominate line, tempo in victory

The Little Falcons controlled the game’s tempo with its ground game, as the 120-pounders beat the Redmen 18-0 to begin the season.

Coach Antonio Page was pleased with his team’s ball control offense and a very stingy defense that shut out the Southsiders. The Falcons’ offensive and defensive lines were stellar.

Andrew Bretsik opened the scoring with a 44-yard scamper for the Falcons’ first touchdown. Melvin Neail followed with a 12- yard TD run. Logan Italiano, who carried the ball 4 times, scored on a 2-yard plunge.

Italiano was also a force on defense, recovering a fumble and making several tackles. Daniel Ifft, Christopher Scott, Kyree North, Matthew Ferree, Diven Ellert and Eric Shipsky all contributed solid efforts.

Little Falcon 140-pounders fall to Redmen

Several Little Falcons mistakes and big plays from the Redmen added up to a 36-0 loss for Austintown’s 140-pound team on Sunday.

“Our mistakes are fixable and they will be fixed with hard work,“ coach Anthony Garcia told his team after the game.

Playing good in the defeat were Milton Buchner, Kerron Devoe, Michael Ferree, Nathaneil Fowler, Randy Smith and Antonio Page.

After a bye week for the Labor Day weekend, the Little Falcons return to action Sept. 10 at old South High Field to play the Crusaders.
